THE FINAL WEEK THREE OF THE LEGACY CUP ENDS WITH A COOL MAGIC VICTORY
Wetherill and Cool Magic Score 257 and Earn a Check for $2,500

May 21-22, 2004 - Lexington, KY - The third and final week of the Legacy Cup featured Non Pro 3'6" competition. The show was held at the Kentucky Springs Premier Horse Show in Lexington, KY.

Fifteen-year-old Cortie Wetherill and his horse Cool Magic scored a 257 to win the competition earning a check for $2,500. Trainer honors for week three went to Peter Pletcher with earnings of $3,069. Pletcher also won Week One ($6,408). Wetherill's win put him at the top of the Legacy Cup Rider Ranking for the third week with $2,758. The Non Pro Team Award went to Ashland Farms' team of Ken and Emily Smith with a total of $5,405. As the owner of Lucky (who had the highest cumulative score of 284 over the three weeks), Samantha Hallman was awarded the Belcort Farm Perpetual Trophy donated by Walter J. Lee.

The winner of the Non Pro 3'6" Go Round, Caroline Moran aboard In Return, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood, finished in second overall and topped the amateur rider's on her other mount, Saint Nick earning $1,338. Priceless and Clara Lindner finished second in the amateur ranking and third overall with a score of 251 earning $936 for the night.

Cortie Wetherill said of Cool Magic, "I just got him. He is an easy ride."

"He's great, he always comes through with it," said Caroline Moran of Saint Nick, "I've had him for a long time."

Moran continued about the Legacy Cup in general noting, "This is a perfect spot for it. I think it's been great. It makes for a long day but it's worth it."

The judges for the two nights of competition were: Louise Serio, Sherri Clapperton, Tom Brede, Bobbie Reber, Rachel Kennedy and George Wallace.

A correction was made to the Pre Green division that took place the first week of the Legacy Cup competition. Snow Garden, ridden by Havens Schatt and owned by Heather Hartenbach was named champion of that division. Hartenbach said, "I'm just glad they are giving the hunters a chance to go out there and try, like the jumpers."

The Legacy Cup ended with the announcement that it will again return to Kentucky next year as part of the Kentucky Springs Horse Show and to Houston, Texas, with details forthcoming.
