Clark and Superstitious lead the pack at the Legacy Cup
on Thursday
By Jamie Krauss
Caroline Clark and Superstitious took the win in today's three-foot
non-professional, with an impressive score of 86 from judging team one
(consisting of Brian Lenehan and Liza Denehy), an 83 from team number two
(Russell Frey and George Wallace), an 86 from team three (Scott WIlliamson and
John Roper), and 86 from team four (Jeff Wirthman and Patrick Rodes). Her
overall score of 341 was enough to assure her of the victory by a full ten
points.
Stillwater and Betty Oare completed a beautifully smooth round to earn the
second place honors.
"He's never shown indoors before, but it didn't seem to bother him one
bit," said Oare. "The ring is so big and the jumps so inviting, it
just asks the horses to perform well."
The remainder of the top positions went to Wendy Berol Gifford on Nightshade
in third, Mandy McCutheon in fourth on Abatar, Mrs. Gordon Wheeler in fifth on
Halloween, and Rachel Geiger in the sixth position on Dream Date.
"These classes seem to be running very smoothly, and the horses are all
going great," commented professional, Peter Pletcher. "This horse show
has been well-run, and it is a really good idea to have an event like
this," he added. "It's supposed to be a very special event, and it
really feels like one-that's what makes it so special."
The afternoon session saw the 3'6" non-professionals competing, and
Better 'N Better with Courtney Baca took the top honors. Elizabeth Coughlin with
Just One Night earned the second place award.
"I like this horse show because it's fun and exciting," she said.
"I like the format, and getting to show in front of this panel of judges is
really neat!"
As We Speak with Kara Hoffstetter (owned by Carol Stillman) came in third,
with Kindred Spirit and Mimi Edwards in fourth.
"This is an excellent facility to be able to show in. Our horses are
going great, and the way the judges are set up in teams is a great format."
